The BIAL Foundation also assigns Scientific Research Scholarships for the study of neurophysiological and mental health in people, arousing the interest of researchers in the areas of Psychophysiology and Parapsychology.
To date the BIAL Foundation has supported 461 projects, more than 1000 researchers, with research groups in twenty-seven countries, resulting, until April 2013, in about 600 full papers, out of which 172 published in indexed international journals with an average impact factor of 3.6 and a substantial number of citations (1665).
Since 1996 the BIAL Foundation organizes the Symposia entitled "Behind and Beyond the Brain", a Forum that gathers well renowned neurosciences speakers and the BIAL Foundation Fellows which are spread around the world.

Abstract/Results: RESULTS:
This study aimed to (1) determine if fractal dimension represented a cue which maps onto some basic human desires: a healthy environment, the presence of water, and a sense of spirituality; (2) understand relationships between the fractal dimension of visual scenes, human physiological responses to such scenes and self-reported preference for a visual environment.
Phase 1 showed no significant difference between sites classed as “sacred” vs “secular” and the fractal dimension of the dominant edges in visual images of those sites (W=174, N=40, p=0.25). However, differences for hydrogeological sites were close to significance (shallow vs deep water table: W=23, N=18, p=0.07) and for biodiversity sites were significant (high vs low: W=25, N=40, p=1.34x10-7).
Phase 2 showed a significant negative relationship (r = -0.11, p = 0.03) between the skin conductance magnitude and the fractal dimension of the dominant visual edge, suggesting that visual complexity relates to our level of arousal upon seeing that site. A relationship between expressed preference and fractal dimension was also supported ( = 0.61, p= 0.03).
In combination, this supports the idea that humans have an inherent ability to recognise and prefer environments that are ecologically healthy. Given the change in physiological arousal, this suggests that visual response during dowsing might be a useful area to be pursued by interested researchers (as depth of water table showed a possible negative correlation to fractal dimension, which showed a negative correlation related to skin conductance response, therefore near-to-surface water should show a relaxation response that could be expressed via ideomotor action).

Abstract/Results: ABSTRACT:
Wellbeing and sustainability are often presented as separate issues. At best, sustainable practises might have some beneficial side-effects on wellbeing (e.g., less air pollution means less respiratory ailments); at worst, the two are presented as mutually exclusive (i.e., sustainability necessarily means a lower standard of living). But I think the argument can be made for an opposite view: that if we focus on being well, we will find that sustainability emerges from that state. While there is still debate over definitions of wellbeing, it can be generally seen as a state in which our basic, universal needs are met (objective wellbeing), where we experience a predominance of positive mood in our lives (subjective or hedonic wellbeing) and, perhaps most important of the three aspects, where we feel autonomously purposeful, part of something greater that offers meaning to our lives (eudaimonic wellbeing). Drawing on ecopsychological research and theory – including the author's own experimental studies linking personal and environmental health via perceptual pathways – this paper shows how a garden designed to promote these three aspects of wellbeing (a “restorative environment”) would also be a microcosm model for sustainable practise.

In a series of observations from 1994 through 1997, Rupert Sheldrake and Pamela Smart tested whether Smart's male terrier dog, Jaytee, could correctly anticipate when she was returning home. Jaytee's anticipatory behavior proved to be significantly accurate, even under double -blind conditions in which a distant experimenter informed Smart to return home at randomly determined times via a pager. Overall, the success of these experiments suggests that Jaytee and Smart shared a strong telepathic bond, or perhaps that Jaytee possessed precognitive skills. However, while Jaytee's performance was remarkably accurate most of the time, in a minority of cases he completely failed to anticipate Smart's return. This paper presents evidence indicating that Jaytee's anticipatory accuracy significantly improved on calm geomagnetic days, and that the performance-GMF relationship was strongly influenced by local sidereal time.
