Abstract/Results: ABSTRACT:
OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the psychometric properties of the Beliefs About Appearance Scale (BAAS) in terms of its factorial structure and invariance, reliability, and validity when applied to adults from the community.
METHODS:
Participants consisted of 810 heterosexual Portuguese individuals in a committed relationship. As a confirmatory factor analysis did not support the original structure of the BAAS, an exploratory factor analysis was performed.
RESULTS:
A 12-item version was extracted comprising two dimensions: one personal and the other social. The factorial model depicting this bidimensional structure revealed an adequate fit following confirmatory factor analysis. Multigroup confirmatory factor analyses indicated invariance across gender. Concurrent and discriminant validities and internal consistency were estimated and observed to be adequate.
CONCLUSIONS:
This shorter measure of the BAAS can accurately assess body appearance beliefs and may be used in different research settings and contexts.

Abstract/Results: ABSTRACT:
Software validation test is recognised essential by international organisations responsible for their supervision and validation.
The academic field, namely Psychology, does not use a validation test as an obligation. Psychology researchers are often
required to develop their own software. However, it is not expected its validation. Also, personal software testing is often an
unknown procedure. Moreover, Psychology researchers are not familiar with the protocols and reports part of the process.
There is a gap between research personal software and their validation. The advantages of the validation procedures are
various. Validation test contribute to produce high quality research in a consistent way, to help to adhere to the predicted costs
and the schedule of the project. The present article aims to call the attention for the lack of validation in the software used in
Psychology research. Furthermore, describe the validation process and provide exemplificative tools. The importance of
developing protocols during the research process, prepare a manual, a plan research detailed, a description of requirements and
writing installation notes, have been demonstrated to be essential for successful research projects. The present article reveals
what the test of validation consists of, how it can be implemented and its benefits.

Validation of the Portuguese Variant of the Munich Chronotype Questionnaire (MCTQ(PT))
Publication year: 2020
URL:
https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fphys.2020.00795/full
Abstract/Results: ABSTRACT:
Introduction Differences in the manner circadian clocks entrain to the 24-h day are expressions of different chronotypes that can range from extreme early to extreme late, from proverbial larks to owls. The Morningness Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ) was one of the first to assess daily preference based on subjective self-assessment - a psychological construct. The later developed Munich Chronotype Questionnaire (MCTQ) uses instead the actual sleep timing to assess chronotype. It calculates the mid-sleep point, halfway between onset and offset on work-free days (MSF), which is then corrected for potential oversleep on free days compensating for sleep debt accumulated over the workweek (MSFsc). MSF(sc)is expressed in local time and is thought to be a proxy for "phase of entrainment" of the circadian clock. The MCTQ-derived chronotype is therefore a biological construct. In the present report, we validate the Portuguese variant (MCTQ(PT)) of the MCTQ. Portugal is of particular interest, since it is thought to consist of especially late chronotypes. Methods We have used three methods to assess the timing of daily behavior, namely, thechronotype(MCTQ), thedaily preference(rMEQ), and asimple self-assessment(time-of-day type). A total of 80 healthy adults living in Portugal, with age and sex distributed according to the Portuguese population, were recruited. We analyzed 4 weeks of continuous records of actimetry data to validate the MCTQ(PT)and used the rMEQ to compare between abiological chronotype(sleep timing) and apsychological chronotype(daily preference). MCTQ variables were analyzed by descriptive statistics; correspondence between measurements was done by Spearman correlations or cross-tabulation; in a subset of 41 individuals, test-retest reliability was assessed. Results MCTQ-derived variables (MSF, MSW, MSFsc) correlated highly with their counterparts calculated from actimetry (MSW: rho = 0.697; MSF: rho = 0.747; MSFsc: rho = 0.646; allp< 0.001). The MCTQ assessment of the chronotype showed good test-retest reliability (rho = 0.905;p< 0.001). The rMEQ score correlates with MSFsc(rho = -0.695;p< 0.001), and the agreement for the self-assessment with the MSF(sc)was fair (kw= 0.386;p< 0.001). Conclusion The Portuguese variant of the MCTQ revealed to be a reliable questionnaire to assess the chronotype for the Portuguese adult population, as previously reported for other countries.

Abstract/Results: Abstract
Objectives
Assessing mindfulness skills is an important topic for the mindfulness research community around the world. Having a variety of mindfulness measures validated in different languages would increase the quality of research on the topic. Thus, we propose a contribution to the validation of the Italian version of the Philadelphia Mindfulness Scale (PHLMS) and its relatively short form, including only 10 out of the original 20 items. We also study its relationships with other psychological measures, and how it relates to meditation experience.
Methods
We translated the original scale into Italian and then assessed its psychometric properties in two convenience samples of healthy participants from the general population (total n = 429). We analyzed the validity and the dimensionality of the scale (study 1 and 2), its construct validity and relationships with other psychological measures (study 3), and then how it relates to meditation experience (study 4).
Results
An exploratory factor analysis (study 1) on sample 1 confirmed the original PHLMS structure, indicating two orthogonal dimensions named awareness and acceptance. A successive confirmatory factor analysis (study 2) on sample 2 also revealed a good fit of the model for the two-factor structure with correlated error. The short form also revealed a good model fit. In the successive studies conducted on a pooled sample including both sample 1 and 2, we confirmed the predominant role of acceptance in determining psychological well-being (study 3) and that meditation experience was related to increased mindfulness skills (study 4).
Conclusions
The results support both the long and short forms of the Italian PHMLS (PHLMS-I) as valid and reliable instruments for measuring mindfulness skills in non-meditative and meditative samples.
