    • When entering a set of words in quotes, e.g "european union", all records containing the literal term "European Union" will be retrieved.
  • Search by access fields (e.g. author, title, etc.):
    • To direct your search, choose the field in which you want to search the word or expression.
    • Search in the field assumes by default the expression in quotes, e.g. European union will retrieve all records containing the literal term "European Union"
  • To perform more complex searches, additional words or expressions may be added.
  • If you want to refine the search results, you can always access the link "search" in the upper left corner of the page of search results.
  • The search engine is not case sensitive. For example, the word congress has the same meaning that Congress or CONGRESS.

BIAL Foundation Archive
Start date: 1994
History:
The BIAL Foundation was created in 1994 by Laboratórios BIAL in conjunction with the Council of Rectors of Portuguese Universities. BIAL’s Foundation mission is to foster the scientific study of Man from both the physical and spiritual perspectives.
Along the years the BIAL Foundation has developed an important relationship with the scientific community, first in Portugal and after worldwide. Today it is an institution of reference which aims to stimulate new researches that may help people, promote more health and contribute to new milestones to gain access to knowledge.
Among its activities the BIAL Foundation manages the BIAL Award, created in 1984, one of the most important awards in the Health field in Europe. The BIAL Award rewards both the basic and the clinical research distinguishing works of major impact in medical research.
The BIAL Foundation also assigns Scientific Research Scholarships for the study of neurophysiological and mental health in people, arousing the interest of researchers in the areas of Psychophysiology and Parapsychology.
To date the BIAL Foundation has supported 461 projects, more than 1000 researchers, with research groups in twenty-seven countries, resulting, until April 2013, in about 600 full papers, out of which 172 published in indexed international journals with an average impact factor of 3.6 and a substantial number of citations (1665).
Since 1996 the BIAL Foundation organizes the Symposia entitled "Behind and Beyond the Brain", a Forum that gathers well renowned neurosciences speakers and the BIAL Foundation Fellows which are spread around the world.
Classified as an institution of public utility, the BIAL Foundation includes among its patrons the Portuguese President, the Portuguese Universities Rectors' Council and the Portuguese Medical Association.

Since its launch, applications to the BIAL grants have been increasing. Up to now 461 projects have been supported, involving more than 1000 researchers from 27 countries.
The approved applications have benefited from grants in amounts comprised between €5,000 and €50, 000. The amount to be granted is fixed by the Scientific board according to the needs of each project.
The supported projects have originated, until April 2013, in about 600 full papers, 172 out of which were published in indexed international journals with an average impact factor of 3.6 and a substantial number of citations (1665).
Among the BIAL Foundation fellows is worth highlighting the presence of scientists from prestigious universities from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Russia, Germany, Japan, France, Canada, and many others.
The BIAL grants are promoted biannually.

Abstract/Results: RESULTS:
Approximately 100 subjects (experienced meditators, self-proclaimed healers, and others) have been tested in a double darkroom using invisible infrared (IR) and invisible ultraviolet (UV) detection instruments to measure intensity levels (photons/second) of human emission, and if subjects could control their radiation by intention. These studies demonstrate that most of the healers did produce excess IR radiation or heat in their palms and on their foreheads during their healing process. Of the 100 participants who were part of the UV study, three different meditation healing groups (each group consisting of three inexperienced healers seated in front of the UV detector) produced a rise in photon count of 40 to 60 photons per second above a baseline of 8 to 10 photons/second that persisted during each 15-minute segment of the meditation. Two other subjects (an experienced healer and an experienced meditator) consistently produced between 400,000 and 800,000 UV photons per second over a time span of several seconds. In more recent tests, still another experienced healer produced over 1.6 million UV photons per second above baseline. These photons emissions were produced at the request of the researchers and stopped when the researcher asked them to relax. Thus, both experienced and inexperienced healers and meditators are able to produce invisible light emission through focused intention. Future research will explore the origin of the energy increases and the methods used by the individuals to produce this increased energy. Also, we will explore the relationship between this work and reports of luminous radiation around people (the aura), mental communication (ESP) and mental interaction with materials (psychokenesis).

Abstract/Results: ABSTRACT:
The Bioenergy Laboratory at the Rhine Research Center detects electromagnetic radiation from humans during times of focused intent-typically during deep meditation or implied energetic healing activities. Sensitive infrared (IR) and ultraviolet (UV) light detection equipment measures invisible light emissions from the participants. Approximately 100 participants, including selfproclaimed energetic healers, meditators, and others claiming no special abilities, were measured using IR and UV equipment. These experiments measure the levels (photons/second) of electromagnetic radiation and whether the participants are able to intentionally control the emissions. In the IR studies, professed energetic healers produced radiation or heat on their palms and foreheads when they began their healing process, and it subsided when they stopped. UV studies found 4 individuals and 3 meditation groups that intentionally projected from 3 to 100,000 times the baseline UV light readings in the room. The change began with their purposeful activities and stopped when the activity subsided. This research demonstrates that light-sensitive equipment can detect energies from some healers and meditators who are able to intentionally project this energy. These emissions may be related to chi, energetic healing, ESP activities, or PK.

Abstract/Results: ABSTRACT:
OBJECTIVES:
Our Bio-fields Laboratory at the Rhine Research Center detects electromagnetic radiation from humans during times of focused intent (usually healing meditations). Everyone emits infrared electromagnetic radiation that is just beyond the visible range, and we sense this radiation as heat or warmth. We also emit invisible ultraviolet radiation. We hope to discover how ultraviolet photon emissions are generated by human subjects and how it is being used by our sensory system, or by our minds, to influence healing to interact with materials.
METHODS:
Participants are placed in a dark room with an infrared detector that is more sensitive than the human sensory system and a photomultiplier detector designed to detect UV radiation that is invisible to the human eye. The photomultiplier detector exceeds the sensitivity of the human eye by detecting wavelengths from approximately 450 nanometers to 250 nanometers. (Visible spectrum = 700 to 400 nanometers). This detector is used to measure electromagnetic radiation from humans at the higher-frequency (shorter wavelength) ultraviolet end of the visible spectrum.
RESULTS:
Using the infrared detectors, we have noted that most healers become much redder on the forehead and palms as the healing meditation progresses. Over a multi-year period we have measured radiation from approximately 100 different subjects in the darkroom using the photomultiplier detector which measures the number of photons per second that are emitted. With the darkroom is empty, the photomultiplier detector reads a baseline count of approximately 5 photons per second. The count rises to approximately 8 or 10 photons per second with human control subjects in the darkroom. In a recent series of tests with groups of three subjects in the darkroom doing healing meditations, the photon count typically rose to approximately 40 to 60 photons per second. When the subjects were instructed to stop meditating, the count consistently
dropped back to the baseline of approximately 8 to 10 photons per second. Three individual subjects on multiple occasions have emitted 400,000 to 800,000 photons per second over a time span of several seconds.
CONCLUSIONS:
Since photons are energy, and since healers and meditators are emitting measureable increases in photons, these individuals are emitting invisible energy. This energy may be associated with healing or with other events generated through meditation.
