Precognition as a form of prospection: A review of the evidence
Publication year: 2018
URL:
http://psycnet.apa.org/record/2018-13946-003
Abstract/Results: ABSTRACT:
Prospection, the act of attempting to foresee one’s future, is generally assumed to be based on conscious and nonconscious inferences from past experiences and anticipation of future possibilities. Most scientists consider the idea that prospection may also involve influences from the future to be flatly impossible due to violation of common sense or constraints based on one or more physical laws. We present several classes of empirical evidence challenging this common assumption. If this line of evidence can be successfully and independently replicated using preregistered designs and analyses, then the consequences for the interpretation of experimental results from any empirical domain would be profound.

The premonition code: The science of precognition, how sensing the future can change your life
Publication year: 2018
URL:
https://www.amazon.ca/Premonition-Code-Science-Precognition-Sensing-ebook/dp/B079DBH898
Abstract/Results: ABSTRACT:
In this groundbreaking book, bestselling author Theresa Cheung joins forces with cognitive neuroscientist Julia Mossbridge, PhD, Director of the Innovation Lab at The Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS). Together they reveal revolutionary new research showing that sensing the future is possible, they also provide practical tools and techniques you can use to develop your own powers of precognition.
Precognition is the scientific name for the knowledge or perception of the future, obtained through extrasensory means. Often called 'premonition', precognition is the most frequently reported of all extrasensory perception (ESP) experiences, occurring most often in dreams. It may also occur spontaneously in waking visions, auditory hallucinations, flashing thoughts entering the mind, the sense of "knowing" and physiological changes. Combining science and practice, Theresa and Dr Julia unravel the mystery of precognition. The book will cover:
• What precognition is and the different types, clearly explaining the cutting-edge science, including what is known and what is still a mystery
• The most common premonitions that people experience and why, including examples from around the world
• Experimental tools to help you cultivate precognition experiences to help get useful information for your life
• Case studies included throughout, with supporting scientific evidence offered alongside to provide validation and explanation
• Personal experiences of the authors, detailing how premonition has shaped their lives and interviews with leading scientists and experts in the field

Can hypnotic suggestion induce feelings of unconditional love and supernormal performance?
Publication year: 2020
URL:
https://psycnet.apa.org/record/2020-63769-001
Abstract/Results: ABSTRACT:
Rigorous, controlled laboratory investigations into what have been called “supernormal” abilities have revealed replicable experimental evidence for precognition, the ability to predict randomly determined future events, and micropsychokinesis, the ability to mentally influence the probability of random events such as the output of a truly random number generator. However, the effects are small among the general population, while individuals already prescreened for talent show larger effects. Improving performance on tasks testing supernormal abilities is a high priority for those interested in understanding these effects. Here, we empirically examined the idea that using hypnotic suggestion to put individuals in a self-transcendent state of unconditional love would produce above-chance precognition and micropsychokinesis in unscreened participants. Using a crossover study design, 35 participants (gender mix = 71% women; M age = 53.5 years) received two hypnotic suggestions on two different days: one to enjoy experiencing unconditional love, the other to enjoy accessing precognition abilities. Both suggestions were related to a significant and lasting increase in self-reported feelings of unconditional love, but supernormal abilities did not improve from before to after suggestion in either condition. However, post hoc analyses revealed that performance on a precognitive remote viewing task was significantly higher than chance prior to the unconditional love suggestion, and this performance was significantly higher in participants who reported greater feelings of unconditional love. Additional research is required to confirm or reject this tentative but potentially revealing relationship and to further examine the influence of the clinical use of hypnotic suggestion to boost feelings of unconditional love.

Time and (Un)conscious processes predictive anticipatory activity and potential applications
Publication year: 2019

Abstract/Results: ABSTRACT:
Predictive Anticipatory Activity (PAA) is the physiological and behavioral activity in an organism related to gathering accurate information about future events not through the usual senses, inference, or directly causing the events themselves to occur. It has been demonstrated and replicated in multiple independent and controlled laboratory experiments examining human behavior and physiology and in two animal experimental systems. Aside from the versions of PAA explicitly developed through conscious training, spontaneous PAA may represent an unconscious attempt to prepare organisms for future events. The mechanisms underlying PAA are unknown, and it is not clear that physical laws actually forbid it. It is thus possible that information about physical events is time symmetric in nature, and that conscious experience generally only presents us with a unidirectional flow that we call the "arrow of time." Based on these ideas, in this position paper the argument is made that PAA can be thought of as a glimpse into physical reality, not as it is presented to us via the mechanisms that create our conscious experiences, but as it is "beyond the veil" of the conscious mind. Potential research and practical applications for PAA, especially with regard to consciousness in AI systems, are briefly discussed.

Title: BIAL Grants
Start date: 1994
History:
In 1994 the BIAL Foundation launched a programme of science research grants with the aim of encouraging the research into Man’s physical and mental processes, namely in fields still largely unexplored but which warrant further scientific analysis, as Psychophysiology and Parapsychology.
Since its launch, applications to the BIAL grants have been increasing. Up to now 461 projects have been supported, involving more than 1000 researchers from 27 countries.
The approved applications have benefited from grants in amounts comprised between €5,000 and €50, 000. The amount to be granted is fixed by the Scientific board according to the needs of each project.
The supported projects have originated, until April 2013, in about 600 full papers, 172 out of which were published in indexed international journals with an average impact factor of 3.6 and a substantial number of citations (1665).
Among the BIAL Foundation fellows is worth highlighting the presence of scientists from prestigious universities from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Russia, Germany, Japan, France, Canada, and many others.
The BIAL grants are promoted biannually.

Psi performance as a function of demographic and personality factors in smartphone-based tests: Using a “SEARCH” approach
Publication year: 2021

Abstract/Results: Objective: We set out to gain a better understanding of human psychic or “psi” functioning by using a smartphone-based app to gather data from thousands of participants. Our expectations were that psi performance would often be revealed to be in the direction opposite to the participants’ conscious intentions (“expectation-opposing”; previously called “psi-missing”), and that gender and psi belief would be related to performance. Method:We created and launched three iOS-based tasks, available from 2017 to 2020, related to micro-psychokinesis (the ability to mentally influence a random number generator) and precognition (the ability to predict future randomly selected events). We statistically analyzed data from more than 2,613 unique logins and 995,995 contributed trials using null hypothesis significance testing as well as a pre-registered confirmatory analysis. Results: Our expectations were confirmed, and we discovered additional effects post-hoc. Our key findings were: 1) significant expectation-opposing effects, with a confirmatory pre-registered replication of a clear expectation-opposing effect on a micro-pk task, 2) performance correlated with psi belief on all three tasks, 3) performance on two of the three tasks related to gender, 4) men and women apparently used different strategies to perform micro-pk and precognition tasks. Conclusions: We describe our recommendations for future attempts to better understand performance on forced-choice psi tasks. The mnemonic for this strategy is SEARCH: Small effects, Early and exploratory, Accrue data, Recognize diversity in approach, Characterize rather than impose, and Hone in on big results.

BIAL Foundation Archive
Start date: 1994
History:
The BIAL Foundation was created in 1994 by Laboratórios BIAL in conjunction with the Council of Rectors of Portuguese Universities. BIAL’s Foundation mission is to foster the scientific study of Man from both the physical and spiritual perspectives.
Along the years the BIAL Foundation has developed an important relationship with the scientific community, first in Portugal and after worldwide. Today it is an institution of reference which aims to stimulate new researches that may help people, promote more health and contribute to new milestones to gain access to knowledge.
Among its activities the BIAL Foundation manages the BIAL Award, created in 1984, one of the most important awards in the Health field in Europe. The BIAL Award rewards both the basic and the clinical research distinguishing works of major impact in medical research.
The BIAL Foundation also assigns Scientific Research Scholarships for the study of neurophysiological and mental health in people, arousing the interest of researchers in the areas of Psychophysiology and Parapsychology.
To date the BIAL Foundation has supported 461 projects, more than 1000 researchers, with research groups in twenty-seven countries, resulting, until April 2013, in about 600 full papers, out of which 172 published in indexed international journals with an average impact factor of 3.6 and a substantial number of citations (1665).
Since 1996 the BIAL Foundation organizes the Symposia entitled "Behind and Beyond the Brain", a Forum that gathers well renowned neurosciences speakers and the BIAL Foundation Fellows which are spread around the world.
Classified as an institution of public utility, the BIAL Foundation includes among its patrons the Portuguese President, the Portuguese Universities Rectors' Council and the Portuguese Medical Association.

Precognition at the boundaries: An empirical review and theoretical discussion
Publication year: 2023

https://doi.org/10.31156/jaex.24216
Abstract/Results: ABSTRACT:
The rigorous scientific study of precognition, the human ability to accurately predict future events that are not already predictable based on information about the past or from the five senses, spans the last 90 years. This review describes different types of precognition, underscores the basic principles of precognition research, and discusses the evidence for and potential mechanisms of two very different forms of precognition: 1) mostly unconscious precognition with short lead times (e.g., presentiment) and 2) mostly conscious precognition with longer lead times (e.g., precognitive remote viewing). I describe two potential models to explain each of these forms of precognition, along with ideas for empirical tests of each one.
